What is Varnish?

Varnish is a transparent, hard protective finish applied primarily to wood surfaces to seal and shield them from abrasion and moisture. Unlike paint, varnish contains no pigments, drying as a clear or slightly amber film that enhances and exposes the underlying natural grain, knots, and color of the wood substrate.
