What is Chinking?

Chinking is a flexible, mortar-like sealant used to seal wide gaps between logs in log structures. Similar to caulk, it blocks moisture, cold drafts, and pests while stretching to accommodate natural wood movement. When staining or painting, chinking must be properly timed and compatible with wood finishes to ensure adhesion.
