What is Tinting?

Tinting is the process of adding colorant to a base paint to achieve a specific color. Paint stores use computerized dispensing machines to inject precise amounts of pigment concentrate into white or clear base paints according to a color formula. Tinting allows for thousands of custom colors from a limited number of base paints. Painters also tint primers to approximate the topcoat color, which improves coverage and reduces the number of finish coats needed.
