What is Zinc-Rich Primer?

Zinc-rich primer is a heavy-duty protective coating containing high concentrations of elemental zinc powder. Painting contractors apply it to structural steel or iron substrates to provide galvanic corrosion protection, as the sacrificial zinc corrodes in place of the underlying metal to prevent rust, even if the topcoat is scratched.
