What is Joint Compound?

Joint compound, commonly called drywall mud, is a gypsum-based paste used in interior wall preparation. Contractors apply it to fill seams between drywall sheets, embed paper or mesh joint tape, and cover fastener heads. Once dry, it is sanded smooth, creating a uniform substrate necessary for proper paint adhesion and appearance.
